For our last day in London (at least on this leg fo the journey), we
decided to take the advice of the Lonely Planet, and take a bus into the
city. After the bus, we started the Whitehall Walk, another Lonely
Planet suggestion. Lots of famous buildings in such a small place! By
half way through I was very tired of staring a buildings though, so I
dragged Kate off through the parks
There are LOTS of parks in London, I was very impressed that so many
have survived the population pressures of the city. It was really nice
weather, and a lot of other people were enjoying the parks too. We
wandered over to Buckingham Palace (lots of statues, lots of gold, even
more tourists), St James' Park, Green Park, Hyde Park (where we hired a
paddle boat, which was too short even for Kate - my legs were seriously
cramped) and finally Kensington Gardens, where we saw the statue of
Peter Pan, and lots of Squirrels - I took photos of the squirrels.
We finished at Kensington Palace, where youngesters on rollerblades were
doing very tricky things on the broadwalk, and hundreds of people were
kicking soccer balls around. It was getting on to 8pm by then, and we
had to get home.
Luckily, booking a cab for 4am wasn't a problem, so we just had to say
goodbye to everyone, pack a suitcase of things we've left with Ingvar,
and go to sleep. Got to sleep about midnight.
