Posted a package (3kg) home, and also all those poor undervalued
postcards. Apologies in advance to anyone who has to pay to receive them
at the other end. We have a brochure with the picture of the guy who
sold us the wrong stamps, though we've decided against going back and
killing him - just a little too much effort.
We looked for raincoats, but the only place we could find was a sports
store, which was far too expensive. Got a big umbrella instead.
The music museum (skipped yesterday due to excessive rain and getting a
bit late) was cool - heaps of interactive things to play with. There
were too many kids running around using them though!
Train to Salzburg. We had been warned not to travel between 5 and 7pm
(rush time for at least the first few stops, as the commuters go home),
so we left at 4:20pm. Had 5 people in the cabin at the most crowded, but
had all 6 seats to ourselves most of the way! Luxury. All around us were
flood waters - at one point the train was travelling very slowly, and
the tracks were tilted a bit... they were constructing new tracks
nearby, probably to replace the bit we were on! Amazingly fast and dirty
rivers, and at least one house partially under water.
In Salzburg most of the bridges were closed. We had to get a taxi out to
the Autobahn and back in again on the other side of the river - all
public transport was stopped. Andreas had sent us an email warning not
to come yet, but we were already on the train, so he came over to meet
us at the station.
Had Sushi for dinner and then off to look at the river. Salzburg had a
new tourist boat running from the city centre to the zoo.. unfortunately
it was half sunk, and being held in place by a towtruck and a tank. Lots
of military types standing around guarding their tank too...
We're sharing a single room apartment (no, really - there's a tiny
kitchen and bathroom opening off the room, but we're all sleeping in the
same room. We get the fold out couch, which is actually really nice and
comfortable.
.. anyone who has read this far deserves a medal. I'm off to sleep...
