Caught a bus to the train station after breakfast (going to Florence for
the day), only to discover we'd missed a train by about 10 minutes, and
the next was in 2 hours. Caught a bus back around to the Uni and then to
another net cafe (one we used before was shut today) and discovered that
Select had finally paid Kate. Yay!!! Now we can afford the rest of the
holiday (just).
In Florence, the hostel was really crap (still) and wouldn't even let
us pay for beds for the next day. Everything is one day at a time, and
you have to be there before 10am to get a bed. Decided we didn't like
them anyway.
The cathedral was fantastic from the outside.. a little busy inside
though. A little busy really describes the whole city. Kate and Tiff
were there in winter last time and loved it, as did Felicity when she
visited. On the other hand, Owen and Tanya didn't like it - in summer.
We understand why now, it was very busy and polluted. Yuck.
Spent the rest of the afternoon in the Galleria dell'Academia - the
musical instruments were great, Stradivarius violins, violas and cellos.
One macho guy was using the hand rubbing bell thing and filling the
place with lots of noise while he showed off (it used friction with
water to make noise).
David was very statuey, and being photographed at an amazing rate (one
flash every second or so) despite the no photography signs. Very rude
(so I took one too). Lots of other pretty paintings.
Train station sucked, no info on which platform our train was on until
it was about to leave, and everyone who already knew had taken the
good seats.
Kate's diary says good me for yummy dinner (cooked)!
