Breakfast was OK, but there wasn't very much of it. Still, better than
previous places, and we were resigned to not getting good breakfasts in
Italy by then. At least it was fresh!
Caught the metro to the Duomo, which was really good except for the
scaffolding covering all the spires (we got a photo to prove how little
you could see through it!) and a service inside. There were people
taking photos - while the service was on, which is forbidden at any
time! We were embarassed to be lumped in with such 'tourists',
especially since I was still holding the camera from the photos I'd
taken outside. We left quickly and hoped nobody had seen us!
La Scala was all boarded up (undergoing renovations) including the
Museum that Kate had hoped to show me, and we walked off to find the
Archimbaldi (the new theatre) but found a really cool park instead. Had
lunch there, and just wandered around for a while, then found the
Natural History Museum (which was in the park) and spent a couple of
hours there. They have lots of stuffed animals (including far too many
rare, and exitinct, ones - no wonder they're rare if every museum wants
one killed to put up in a display). There were also lots of rocks,
fossils, and a special exhibition with over 100 different types of
mushrooms. I'm a bit worried about the photo I took of that though,
because the camera popped open the next day, and may have destroyed that
bit of film. At least I'd changed it just a second before.
Looked for a supermarket and an internet place, found neither. Decided
that the Lonely Planet Italy book really is a little out of date, and we
really should get a new one if we ever go back. Not really worth it for
the last half a day we had at this point though!
Had felafel for dinner in the park, then back the hostel where we
packed everything ready for an early morning. I spent a while on the
internet and sent diary entries off - Kate slept to make up for the
previous night.
