Ran off to Zurich far too early - we decided to get the 8:25 train, so
we had to be out of the hostel by 7:30. Breakfast started at 7:15, so we
were first in the queue (with everything ready) and wolfed down our
drinks, then pocketed the rolls and jam and ran.
Lots of cards and needlework on the train (sound familiar?) then sat
around in the waiting room at Zurich for 2 hours so we could get to the
hostel at 3pm (when reception re-opened). Should have checked ahead.
Still, I found the tourist info and got lots of maps. Information for
travellers is REALLY good in Switzerland. Oh yeah, and Zurich HAD
LOCKERS!!!!! Finally. They cost CHF 8 (approximately $10 AU), but they
were there.
Did some shopping and went to see 'About a boy' in English with
subtitles in both German and French! There was an interval during the
movie... something we're not used to for a movie that short. Strange.
Guess the smokers needed to go have a fag or something. Either that or
it's to make money in the snack shop...
Our room-mates had used icky deodorant (ok, so they'd just come from
Octoberfest in Munich and needed it... but it was overpowering) in the
room, and closed the windows. We opened the window a bit to let in some
clean air, and the guy's response (it was a 4 bed room with 2 couples)
was totally over the top. He got up and made heaps of noise looking for
earplugs, then tossed and turned all night, keeping us all awake. His
sleeping bag was really noisy, which just made it worse. They were
Aussies too.
