At least the breakfast was good, but we found that a rat had eaten into
the side of a plastic bag in my room (the one containing the food) and
half way through a hunk of bread. Not encouraging.
We'd already decided we didn't like this hostel, and borrowed their
'Let's Go France' book to get the details of some other hostels!
We wound up in Woodstock Hostel (in Montmatre) which is the other
place Kate stayed last time. We had to leave our bags and come back at
5pm to check in.
Saw some buskers on the metro (actually in the trains) including one
with a double bass!
Checked out Opera Garnier, but all the shows we could make were sold
out. No Opera then.
Walked through Place de Concord, and up Champs Elysees to the Tourist
Information - who weren't actually very friendly, but did sell us 3 day
museum passes.
Metro back to the hostel, and we bought food from a supermarket and ate
lunch in the park nearby.
There was an internet cafe just opposite the park, but their connection
wasn't working (and didn't work for the whole time we were there!) -
looked around for another one, but didn't get the directions right, so
we just walked around for hours. We did find a church with a free
concert on the next night though.
The hostel has a tiny kitchen (if you can call it that) with a single
"warmplate" - cooking anything takes forever, and there isn't even room
for 2 people in the kitchen, let alone room for both of them to try and
cook anything. There was only one pot, and it had no handles. Beds were
OK though.
