We waited all morning at the hostel for Michelle's call, and finally
called her after midday. She said "Oh, I thought you might call". Not
very promising. Said she'd look for work.
We found an internet cafe just down the road - it is run by Oxfam, and
all the proceeds go to charity. It's not the cheapest place, but the
computers aren't at all locked down, so it's handy for me to download
Putty and do work.
I found a laptop computer for sale on the notice board at Sainsburys.
It's an IBM Thinkpad 760XD with a couple of hard disks and three
batteries. Nice little toy. The guy who sold it to us (Tony) lives not
too far away, and offered that I could use his ADSL connection to
download anything I needed.
Waited around for calls all afternoon and read books. Lazy day apart
from getting the laptop. They have a safe at the hostel, and I've been
putting the laptop in there every night and when we go out.
At 2:30 am, 5 very drunk guys came in to the room, made lots of noise,
turned on the light, and were generally evil. One of them Kate calls the
'Random Snorer' - he would come out with really loud snores, but only
occasionally. Another one fell out of bed at 4am. Luckily I slept
through most of it, but Kate didn't get to sleep until 6am!
